about Vanuatu

Republic of Vanuatu is an island country in Melanesia located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is 1,750 km east of northern Australia, 540 km northeast of New Caledonia, east of New Guinea, southeast of Solomon Islands, and west of Fiji.
about Society

It's one of the poorest countries in Oceania, but despite its challenging economic situation, its society is generally stable and public safety is excellent. It's quite friendly to foreigners, and violent crime, let alone simple assault, is rare. It was once known as the world's happiest country. With virtually no manufacturing industry and a heavy reliance on imports for supplies, the island nation's prices are quite high.

about Economy
Vanuatu's economic growth rate was 6.8% in 2005, but it continued to decline, reaching 2.3% in 2014 and 0.16% in 2015. It then rebounded, reaching 3.2% in 2018. While it recorded an 8% decline in 2020 due to COVID-19, this was undoubtedly due to the global economic downturn. Vanuatu exports copra, cocoa, and seafood. The economy is centered around tourism, agriculture, livestock farming, fisheries, and manufacturing, including aluminum boats and ships. Agriculture employs 80% of the population.

A significant portion of the seafood exported is frozen skipjack tuna. While the small population makes it self-sufficient in agriculture and fisheries, the country's small population hinders the development of manufacturing, resulting in a generally poor per capita income of around $3,000. Because it relies heavily on tourism, the country faces difficult circumstances, and the resulting problems include prostitution and other issues.

In terms of basic costs, while Vanuatu's self-sufficient agricultural and seafood products are inexpensive, the country's small population means it lacks production facilities, and most manufactured goods are imported. This makes prices significantly higher than the overall income level in Vanuatu.
